Reno Aces News Release
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah-The Aces fell behind early and never recovered Monday night, dropping a 9-3 decision to the Salt Lake Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Salt Lake scored five times before the Aces finally touched the scoreboard in the fourth on an RBI double by Geoff Blum. But the Bees would push across five more runs the rest of the way and cruised to their second-straight win in the series.
Aces starter Joe Martinez (7-4) saw his seven-game winning streak come to end, surrendering eight runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings of work. Martinez walked three and struck out a season-high eight batters. After his exit, Chris Jakubauskas worked the final 1.1 innings, allowing a run with two strikeouts.
The win went to Bees starter Eddie McKiernan (4-2), who scattered a run on five hits over seven frames.
At the plate for Reno, Jake Elmore finished 0-for-4, seeing his franchise-record 31-game hitting streak come to a close. Elmore was stranded on-deck in the ninth inning.
Ryan Wheeler singled twice, pushing his season hit total to 105. The Aces finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven men on base.
The series comes to a close on Tuesday night. LHP Patrick Corbin (3-2, 3.86 ERA) gets the call for Reno, while Salt Lake counters with RHP Eric Hurley (6-6, 5.36 ERA). First pitch from Spring Mobile Ballpark is set for 6:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 630 AM in Reno or by visiting RenoAces.com.
