Rainiers Fall To Isotopes In Series Opener, 5-3

May 1, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - Despite a quality start from starting pitcher Max Povse, the Tacoma Rainiers (12-12) dropped their series opener to the Albuquerque Isotopes (10-15), 5-3, on Monday night at Cheney Stadium.

Povse (1-4) turned in his first quality start of the season after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out a season-high eight and issued no walks but took the loss.

Tacoma netted a pair of runs in the third on a two-run triple from left fielder Cameron Perkins, and picked up another run in the fifth but could not manage to keep up with Albuquerque.

In the bottom of the ninth, trailing by two runs, the Rainiers loaded the bases with one out but a swinging strikeout from third baseman Taylor Motter and a groundout from first baseman Daniel Vogelbach stymied the comeback attempt.

Center fielder Ian Miller, who entered the game in the fourth inning as a defensive replacement for Guillermo Heredia, went 2-for-2 with one run and a walk to lead the Rainiers offensively. Perkins' two RBI were the only of the night for Tacoma. Vogelbach collected three walks on the night.

The series continues on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. PT as the Rainiers send right-hander Christian Bergman (2-1, 3.00) to the mound. The Isotopes will call on right-hander Jeff Hoffman (0-3, 5.74) for the start.
