Grizzlies sting Bees 11-4 behind offensive outburst

The Fresno Grizzlies (17-8) ended their two-game road losing streak with an 11-4 victory over the Salt Lake Bees (15-10) Monday night from Smith's Ballpark. For the ninth time in 25 games, Fresno plated double-digits. Tyler White and Tony Kemp extended their hit streaks to seven games (team-high) while Kyle Tucker (3-for-4) collected his second consecutive three-hit game. Trent Thornton (2-1) cashed in the win after four innings of relief. He allowed one earned run while fanning five. Starter David Paulino lasted three innings in his first start of the season. He struck out five while giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks.
In the home half of the first, the Bees took a 1-0 lead when Jose Miguel Fernandez lined a single to center, scoring Eric Young Jr. Michael Hermosillo (2-for-5) extended the advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the second with a laser single to left.
The deficit was erased in the top of the third by the Grizzlies. Kemp trotted home after AJ Reed was plunked by a pitch. Then, a fielder's choice by J.D. Davis (2-for-4) allowed Tucker to scamper across the plate. Finally, Garrett Stubbs (2-for-5) smoked a single, tying the game at three.
Fresno went in front in the top of the fourth with three extra-base hits. Tucker spanked a double to the gap, awarding Jon Kemmer (2-for-5) with a run after his leadoff double. Then, White blasted a two-run shot to left, making it 6-3. It was his team-leading sixth longball of the season.
Bees' starter Osmer Morales (1-2) suffered the loss after tossing five innings. He scattered nine hits, six runs (earned), issuing a pair of walks and punching out seven (six looking).
Salt Lake got one back in the bottom of the seventh when Young Jr. tripled home Zach Houchins. In the next half frame, Drew Ferguson made it 8-4 Grizzlies with a two-run double. He would score on a Reed single to left. Tucker drove in two more runs in the top of the ninth with a double.
The 11-4 lead was enough for James Hoyt, who cruised through two scoreless innings.
Game two of the four-game set will be played Tuesday night from Smith's Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PT. Fresno RHP Cy Sneed (2-0, 1.83) puts up his 16-inning scoreless streak versus Salt Lake LHP John Lamb (1-0, 4.34).
