Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (18-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and scored two more in the sixth as the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) got within a run, and the Redbirds held on for a 5-4 win Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
Patrick Wisdom homered and was on base three times, and Yairo Munoz was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Rehabbing Sam Tuivailala pitched the final 2.0 innings to pick up the save, and Carson Kelly threw out the potential tying run trying to steal second base in the ninth inning.
John Gant earned the win with 6.0 innings of work, giving up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. He gave way to Ryan Sherriff for an inning of injury rehab work, before Tuivailala finished things out.
Randy Arozarena had an RBI single in the third to open the scoring, before Munoz' two-run single in the fourth made it 3-0 Redbirds. The Dodgers got single runs in the fifth and sixth to make it 3-2, before Wisdom blasted a two-run home run to left-center field, his fourth of the season, to make the score 5-2 in favor of Memphis.
But the Dodgers did not go quietly, as they plated two runs in the seventh against Sherriff. Tuivailala retired the side in order in the eighth and got a groundout to start the ninth, before he allowed a single to Cael Brockmeyer. Brockmeyer was lifted for a pinch-runner, who was erased by Kelly trying to steal second to move 90 feet closer to tying the game.
Tuivailala struck out the final batter of the game to finish the win.
Each of the top four hitters in the Memphis lineup also had a hit in the game.
Memphis and Oklahoma City continue their four-game series tomorrow night at 6:35. After Thursday's series finale, which concludes a nine-game homestand for the Redbirds, the club hits the road for eight games at Nashville and Oklahoma City.
