Tacoma Rainiers News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Tacoma Rainiers big lead fell victim to a big inning in the club's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Oklahoma RedHawks at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Wednesday.
Tacoma held a 6-0 lead before surrendering six runs on four hits with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Jason Jaramillo knocked in an RBI-double and Cody Clark hit a run-scoring single to bring the RedHawks within four runs. Shortstop Jonathan Villar tied the game with a grand slam to center field one at-bat later.
The RedHawks completed the come-from-behind effort in the 10th inning after Brandon Laird scored the go-ahead run on an error committed by shortstop Nick Franklin on a throw to first base.
Right-handed reliever Jhonny Nunez was on the mound when Laird scored in the 10th and was dealt his second loss this season. Left-hander Bobby LaFromboise surrendered all six of Oklahoma City's runs in the ninth.
Rainiers starter James Paxton posted 5.0 shutout innings in his seventh start for Tacoma this season. The left-hander held the RedHawks to three hits, struck out three and issued three walks.
Second baseman Nate Tenbrink led the club at the plate with a 4-for-4 effort, including a three-run home run that helped give the Rainiers a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning. The infielder Franklin collected three hits with a double and a run scored, and outfielder Denny Almonte notched his third home run of the season after belting a solo shot in the seventh.
The third game of the Rainiers (21-13) four-game series at Oklahoma City (20-12) gets underway at 5:05 p.m. tomorrow, May 9th. Right-hander Blake Beavan (0-1, 9.00) is scheduled to make his second start of the season in the contest against right-hander Asher Wojciechowski (0-0, 2.25) for the RedHawks.
