New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Jacob Turner allowed only a pair of solo home runs to Trent Oeltjen over 6 2/3 innings, and the New Orleans Zephyrs won their third consecutive game by defeating the Salt Lake Bees, 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Oeltjen hit a solo home run with one out in the first inning. Turner (2-3) then retired the next 17 Bees batters, until Oeltjen struck for a second home run to lead off the seventh. The Zephyrs' right-hander struck out four and turned in his fourth straight quality start.

Still trailing 1-0 in the fourth, the Zephyrs evened the score on Peanut Petersen's leadoff triple, followed by a run-scoring single by Jordan Brown.

The Z's pushed two more runs across behind three doubles off Bees starter Matt Shoemaker (2-5) in the sixth to take the lead. Petersen again sparked the rally, this time with a one-out double to right. Ed Lucas drove Petersen in with a double that got past a diving Jimmy Swift at third, then scored when Brown doubled off the wall in left-center.

Following Oeltjen's second home run to break up Turner's run, Luis Rodriguez drew a walk to put the tying run on base. Turner retired Efren Navarro on a fly out and struck out Bill Hall before manager Ron Hassey called on Dan Jennings, who got Matt Young to line out to end the inning.

Jennings worked around a leadoff single in the eighth, then set down the Bees in order in the ninth to complete the save, his third of the season.

The loss was the 10th in a row on the road for Salt Lake, and their sixth in a row overall.

The Z's and Bees continue the series on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
