Tacoma Rainiers News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Rainiers rallied with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to top Sacramento 12-10 at Raley Field on Sunday, sealing a series win for Tacoma over the River Cats.
Trailing Sacramento 10-9, Carlos Triunfel ultimately put Tacoma on top for good with a one-out, two-run single that plated Mike Wilson and Johan Limonta with one out. Scott Savastano added some insurance with a single that scored Triunfel one batter later.
The comeback was necessitated after Tacoma let a 9-5 lead slip away after surrendering five runs to the River Cats in the bottom of the seventh.
The Rainiers originally erased a 3-2 River Cats lead earlier in the contest after posting a five-run inning in the fourth. Guillermo Quiroz tied the score after leading off the frame with a solo home run, and Trayvon Robinson drove in the go-ahead runs with a bases-loaded three-run triple.
Designated hitter Luis Jimenez rounded out the inning with an RBI-single that scored Robinson.
Tacoma combined to collect 16 hits in the club's finale at Sacramento on Sunday. The shortstop Triunfel collected a season-high four hits, and the outfielder Robinson tallied a season-high four RBI. The second baseman Savastano went 3-for-4, with Jimenez and Wilson each turning in two-hit efforts.
Reliever Cesar Jimenez (2-2) collected the win despite allowing the go-ahead run to Sacramento over 0.2 innings of work in the seventh. Right-hander Josh Kinney earned his third save after tossing 2.0 hitless, scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth.
Starter Brian Sweeney surrendered five runs on four hits and issued a season-high five walks with three strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
The Rainiers (29-41) enjoy a scheduled league off day tomorrow before opening a four-game homestand against the Reno Aces (43-29) on Tuesday, June 19. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (2-2, 3.59) is scheduled to start in the opener against top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer (4-0, 2.68) for the Aces. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
