RENO, Nev.-Tucson scored five times in the first inning and the Aces never recovered Sunday afternoon, as Reno dropped a 10-4 decision to the Padres in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
Despite the loss, Reno clinched its fifth-straight series victory and maintains its lead atop the Pacific North Division standings. The Aces have won 12 of their last 14 games.
In the first inning Sunday, Jake Elmore doubled to right, stretching his hitting streak to 26-straight games-a career-high, franchise-record and the top mark in the Pacific Coast League.
Aces starter Barry Enright (5-4) took the loss, surrendering seven runs on 11 hits over 6.0 innings of work. After his exit, Chris Jakubauskas and Mike DeMark each worked a scoreless frame before Jensen Lewis allowed three runs-two earned-in the ninth.
The win went to Padres starter Bear Bay (1-3), who scattered two runs-one earned-over five frames.
At the plate for Reno, Elmore collected three hits on the day, raising his batting average to a league-leading .395. Ryan Wheeler drove in his league-leading 63rd and 64th runs.
Reno now will enjoy a day off on Monday before heading back out on the road for an eight-game road trip through Tacoma and Salt Lake. In Tuesday's series opener in Tacoma, RHP Trevor Bauer (4-0, 2.68 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Rainiers will counter with RHP Andrew Carraway (2-2, 3.59 ERA). First pitch from Cheney Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 630 AM in Reno or by visiting RenoAces.com.
