Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Roy Oswalt struck out five over six innings, and Greg Miclat had three RBI as the Round Rock Express defeated the Oklahoma City RedHawks 4-2 in Sunday night's Pacific Coast League series finale at The Dell Diamond. The Express (31-40) managed a series split with the win, their third in eight games against the RedHawks (41-30) this season.
Oswalt (1-1) surrendered two runs on six hits and one walk in his most effective of four minor-league starts this season. He coaxed an inning-ending lazy fly to left field on his 100th pitch of the night, stranding a runner at second in the sixth. Angel Sanchez, who had three singles in three at bats against Oswalt, delivered a game-tying RBI single up the middle.
Round Rock picked up Oswalt in the bottom of the sixth with three straight two-out hits. Mike Bianucci and Luis Martinez singled, and Miclat followed with a broken-bat double that landed just in front of a diving Brandon Barnes in center. Bianucci and Martinez both scored.
Oswalt logged 70 strikes - 23 of which were foul balls. He labored through a 30-pitch third inning, largely brought about by a 13-pitch at bat against Scott Moore, but used only 34 pitches over the next three innings. Oswalt faced 28 batters with 16 first-pitch strikes. He started six batters 0-2; those batters were 0-for-5 with a walk and four strikeouts.
Neal Cotts allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts over one inning. He faced one batter in the eighth before giving way to Aaron Heilman, who worked around a single with one strikeout for a scoreless two-inning save - his third.
Oklahoma City starter Paul Clemens (8-5) shouldered the loss, surrendering four runs on 13 hits over six innings with no walks and four strikeouts.
Moore broke a scoreless tie in the third, fouling off countless pitches before delivering a full-count, two-out RBI single. Miclat answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the third, his first round-tripper since July 9, 2011, with Double-A Bowie of the Baltimore Orioles organization. Julio Borbon followed with a single, stole second and scored on Brad Nelson's two-out double.
Borbon finished 2-for-4, producing his 10th multiple-hit outing over his last 13 games. He has hit safely in 24 of his last 25 games, going 49-for-109 (.45) with 16 multiple-hit games. Martinez pushed his hitting streak to six games, his longest of the season.
Monday is the fourth of five league-wide off-days. Round Rock continues an eight-game home stand Tuesday, opening a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Greg Reynolds (5-5, 4.57 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Rodrigo Lopez (1-1, 3.41 ERA) is slated to start for the Cubs.
