Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers dropped a late lead and fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers 4-2 in front of 4,134 fans at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday.
Tacoma, holding onto a two-run advantage, surrendered three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Shortstop Yamaico Navarro hit a three-run home run off reliever Scott Patterson with two outs to send the Rainiers to a second consecutive loss.
Previously in the outing, the Rainiers opened up a 1-1 tie with a run in the eighth inning. First baseman Johan Limonta doubled with one out to score catcher Jose Yepez from second base that gave Tacoma a late one-run edge.
Pitching dominated earlier in the contest. Rainiers starter Forrest Snow allowed two hits over five scoreless innings to begin the game before surrendering an RBI-double to Lorenzo Cain in the top of the sixth. The right-hander ended the night allowing four hits and equaling a season-high with nine strikeouts.
Veteran right-hander Jeff Suppan surrendered just one run to Tacoma on seven hits with eight strikeouts over a 5.2-inning start for Omaha.
Storm Chasers reliever Brandon Sisk (4-1) picked up the win despite allowing the go-ahead run to the Rainiers over one inning of work in the eighth. Right-hander Kelvin Herrera gave up a single to the first batter he faced in the ninth, but struck out the next three to collect his third save this season.
The right-hander Patterson (3-3) was dealt the loss after surrendering the home run to Navarro in the ninth inning.
The Rainiers (63-62) return to action at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday to play the third game of their four-game series with the Storm Chasers (69-55). Left-hander Chris Seddon (8-6, 6.43) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against right-hander Sean O'Sullivan (6-2, 2.30) for Omaha.
