Reno Aces News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY-Wes Roemer kept the Aces in the game in his first Triple-A start of the season, but a five-run Oklahoma City seventh inning pushed the RedHawks to a 6-3 victory over Reno Thursday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
Roemer, promoted from Double-A Mobile on Wednesday, scattered just a run on six hits over 5.1 innings of work. He kept Oklahoma City off the scoreboard through five, leaning on a 1-0 Aces lead. The RedHawks finally touched the scoreboard with a run in the sixth, tying the ballgame. In the seventh, though, Oklahoma City scored five runs-all charged to Aces reliever Brian Stokes-to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Stokes (0-1) took the loss, surrendering five runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings. After his exit, Esmerling Vasquez and Sam Demel combined on 0 runs and 1 hit over the game's final 1.1 frames.
The win went to Oklahoma City reliever Wesley Wright (3-1), who tossed 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. RedHawks starter Andy Van Hekken took a no decision after holding Reno to a run on six hits through five.
At the plate for Reno, Mark Hallberg led the way with a three-hit night-including a two-run homer in the ninth. Tommy Manzella gave Reno an early lead with an RBI single in the second as part of an eight-hit Aces attack.
The Aces and RedHawks complete the series on Friday night. RHP Barry Enright (8-4, 4.84 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Oklahoma City will counter with LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (2-7, 5.73 ERA). First pitch from RedHawks Field at Bricktown is set for 5:05 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
The first-place Aces return home on Saturday, Aug. 20 for a four-game series against Tacoma at Aces Ballpark. Tickets for all Aces games, including the 2011 Pacific Coast League playoffs, are available today at RenoAces.com, the Aces Ballpark box office or by phone at (775) 334-7000.
