August 18, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Matt Macri launched a pair of home runs, and Jorge Cantu homered for the second consecutive night, leading the Colorado Springs Sky Sox past the New Orleans Zephyrs, 6-2 on Thursday night.

Macri's first home run of the game, a two-run shot in the fifth against Z's starter Alex Sanabia, gave the Sky Sox a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. Macri added a solo homer in the ninth off reliever Zach Simons.

Cantu's home run with two out in the fourth got the Sky Sox on the board against Sanabia, who was making his season debut for New Orleans.

After Macri put the Sky Sox ahead in the fifth, Colorado Springs added two more runs in the sixth. Ryan Rohlinger led off with a double and scored on a single by former Zephyr Jesus Merchan, who collected three hits in the game.

Joe Mather followed with a two-out single to score Merchan, boosting the Sky Sox lead to 5-2.

Sanabia (0-1) was charged with five runs on eight hits in six innings to take the loss.

The Z's took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, after Sanabia helped his cause by plating a run on a force out, and Jorge Padilla delivered an RBI single. But Colorado Springs starter Joey Williamson retired the next eight batters he faced as the Sky Sox clawed back into the lead.

Williamson (2-1) gave up two runs and five hits in six innings, fanning seven. Sean White and Jim Miller combined to toss three hitless innings of relief, handing the Zephyrs just their fifth loss in the last 19 games at Zephyr Field.

The series concludes Friday at 7 p.m., with Chris Sampson (7-1, 4.03) facing Alan Johnson (4-8, 7.48).
