Tacoma Rainiers News Release
RENO, Nevada - The Tacoma Rainiers (13-17) fell behind the Reno Aces (13-18) early and ultimately lost on the road, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field.
Right fielder Cameron Perkins busted out of a brief cold streak with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double. First baseman Daniel Vogelbach reached base twice, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Reno opened up the scoring with a trio of RBI base knocks in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead after a pair of scoreless frames. The Aces added to their lead in the next inning to make their advantage 4-0.
The Rainiers ventured onto the scoreboard for their only run of the afternoon in the top of the sixth. Left fielder Ian Miller opened the frame with a single, moved to second on a single from Perkins, and came in to score on an RBI single to right from Vogelbach.
The Aces responded with another run in the bottom of the sixth, pushing their lead back out to four runs at 5-1 that they would hold as the final score.
Tacoma starting pitcher Christian Bergman (2-3) worked a "Reno quality start" (5.0+ IP, five or fewer earned runs allowed), pitching 5.0 innings and allowing four runs on eight hits while taking the loss. Bergman struck out four and walked one on 97 pitches (62 strikes).
Reno and Tacoma wrap up their series with another slate of day baseball on Monday at 11:35 a.m. PT. Rainiers left-hander Roenis Elias (0-1, 7.20) will take the mound as the Aces call upon right-hander Taylor Clarke (2-4, 6.30).
