Memphis Redbirds News Release
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - Tyler O'Neill homered for the second-straight day, and Yairo Munoz and Max Schrock extended their hitting streaks to seven and six games, respectively, in an 8-2 Memphis Redbirds (19-12) loss to the Nashville Sounds (Athletics) Sunday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn.
The loss is Memphis' fourth-straight, with the club scoring a total of five runs on the skid.
O'Neill's eighth home run of the season and second in two days came in the third inning and put the Redbirds ahead 1-0. The Sounds answered back with three in the home-half and two more in the fifth to make the score 5-1. Memphis added another tally in the seventh when Adolis Garcia doubled and scored on a Wilfredo Tovar single, but two Nashville home runs and three runs in the eighth sealed the deal.
Memphis pitching allowed a season-high three home runs.
Kevin Herget started and worked 5.0 innings for Memphis, striking out eight with one walk and giving up five runs on six hits. He gave way to Andrew Morales, who fanned five of the six Sounds he faced in 2.0 perfect innings of relief. John Brebbia pitched the eighth and allowed two long-balls.
Munoz was 1-for-3 with a walk and is hitting .385 (10-26) on his seven-game hitting streak. Schrock was 1-for-5 and is riding a six-game streak and hitting .417 (10-24). Garcia finished with a pair of two-baggers.
Franklin Barreto homered twice for Nashville and finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI.
The Redbirds finish their series with Nashville tomorrow at 12:05 p.m. and will stay on their road trip through Friday at Oklahoma City. The Redbirds return to AutoZone Park for four games starting on Saturday the 12th. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
