Rain, Mitchell Soak Chasers' Win Streak

OMAHA, Neb. - Sacramento centerfielder Jermaine Mitchell drilled a three-run home run just two pitches after a 33-minute rain delay, leading the River Cats to a 4-3 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers Thursday night at Werner Park. The loss snapped the Chasers' six-game winning streak and gave the River Cats their 11th win in 13 ballgames.
The delay took place with two runners on base and one out in the top of the fifth inning, with the Chasers on top in the game 3-1. After the tarp came off the field, Mitchell dug in against Vin Mazzaro and crushed a line drive over the wall in right, giving the River Cats the lead for good at 4-3.
Mitchell got the scoring started in the game as well, roping a lead-off triple to deep left-center in the top of the first off Mazzaro (5-2), who was facing his former club for the first time. Mitchell came home on an opposite-field single off the bat of No. 2 hitter Josh Donaldson, making it 1-0 âCats two batters into the game.
The Storm Chasers tied the score on a run-scoring double-play grounder in the second and took the lead in the third. After Johnny Giavotella doubled to right, David Lough launched a two-run home run into the Sacramento bullpen in centerfield, making it 3-1 Chasers. It was Lough's eighth home run of the season and his fourth in as many series.
That would be the last time the Chasers mounted a serious rally, as the offense was stifled by four Sacramento relievers following the rain delay and the Mitchell blast. Joey Devine (4-0) tossed a scoreless fifth to earn the victory and Neil Wagner pitched the ninth for his second save.
The two clubs will meet for game three of the series Friday, with each team owning a one-run victory thus far in the head-to-head match-up. Omaha lefthander Mike Montgomery (4-6, 5.37) will oppose Sacramento righthander Graham Godfrey (10-2, 2.64). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
With 7,475 fans in attendance Thursday night, the Omaha organization ran its all-time attendance tally to 11,999,779, just 221 fans shy of the 12 million mark.
