Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Albuquerque, NM - Alex Liddi hit three home runs as the Tacoma Rainiers topped the Albuquerque Isotopes 12-4 in front of 8,601 fans at Isotopes Park on Thursday night.
Liddi, with Tacoma trailing 1-0, gave the Rainiers the lead after belting a two-run blast with two outs in the top of the third inning. He hit a solo shot in the top of sixth to help stretch the lead to 10-4 and then went deep again with a two-run homer in the top of the eighth.
The third baseman is the first Rainier to go deep three times in a game since outfielder Mike Carp hit three home runs at New Orleans earlier this season. Liddi ended the night going 4-for-6 with four runs scored and with five RBI. He leads the team with 24 home runs this season.
The three-home run outing overshadowed a two-homer game turned in by Wily Mo Pena. The designated hitter Pena delivered a solo shot with two outs in the third inning and then slugged a three-run home run with one out in the fourth.
As a team, Tacoma combined to collect 20 hits on Thursday night. Outfielder Carlos Peguero notched four singles and Greg Halman turned in a double in his first game back with the Rainiers since being optioned from Seattle earlier in the day.
Tacoma starter Anthony Vasquez (4-2) delivered a strong outing to collect the win, holding the Isotopes to four runs, three earned, on nine hits over a six-inning effort.
Albuquerque's Tim Sexton (3-6) was pegged with the loss after surrendering six runs on eight hits over three innings, while issuing two walks with one strikeout.
The Rainiers (56-57) return to action for the third game of their four-game series with the Isotopes at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday night. Left-hander Luke French (8-7, 5.49) is slated to start for Tacoma against left-hander Randy Keisler (6-5, 4.63) for Albuquerque. The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
