Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-The Aces saw an early lead evaporate and trailed in the 13th inning, but came back to defeat Memphis, 8-7, on a Ryan Langerhans walk-off single Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.
Reno jumped on Memphis early, taking a 6-1 lead after two innings. All nine Aces came to the plate in each of the first two frames, with Juan Miranda driving in three of the Aces' first six runs. Reno chased Redbirds starter Adam Ottavino after just 1.2 innings, but the Memphis bullpen kept Reno off the scoreboard until the 13th frame.
In the 13th, Memphis scratched across a run in the top of the frame, but Reno stormed back with two runs in the bottom half to take the series opener. After an Angel Berroa double and Robby Hammock single, Lucas May singled home the tying run on an infield hit. Tony Abreu struck out, but Langerhans provided the knockout blow with a two-out walk-off single to right, snapping the Aces' five-game losing streak and ending the longest game in Aces Ballpark history.
Jason Urquidez (4-5)-the fourth Aces pitcher of the evening-earned the victory, surrendering just one run in three innings of work. Barry Enright started but did not figure in the decision, allowing six earned runs in six innings.
Victor Marte (2-4) suffered the loss for Memphis, giving up four hits and two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Juan Miranda led the offensive attack for the Aces, finishing with two hits and three RBIs. Evan Frey went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Berroa and Mark Hallberg chipped in with a pair of singles each.
The Aces and Redbirds meet again Thursday evening, with Reno LHP Tom Layne (8-5, 6.82 ERA) scheduled to face Memphis RHP Maikel Cleto (1-2, 4.93 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and is a Coors Light Thirsty Thursday(tm) presented by Lotus Radio and Reno News & Review.
