Zephyrs Fall Short in Tucson

TUCSON, AZ

- Tucson scored five first inning runs and held on to defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs 5-4 at Kino Stadium.

The Zephyrs offense stranded ten men on base and went 3 for 13 with runners in scoring position.

The Zephyrs scored runs in the first and second and fell flat for the remaining seven innings.

The Zephyrs out-hit the Padres 11-8.

Tucson sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and Bobby Kielty drilled a two run home run to cap a five run inning.

Steve Tolleson had three hits and the Padres snapped a four game losing streak.

Chris Volstad settled down after the first inning and pitched 6.1 innings allowed five runs on 8 hits and struckout six while suffering the loss.

Joe Thurston drilled a two run home run in the second inning.

Game Notes -Zephyrs have collected at least ten hits in their last 11 road games.

Joe Thurston has reached base in 17 straight games.
