
Express Stymied By Salt Lake 6-2

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Matt Palmer tossed seven shutout innings as the Salt Lake Bees defeated the Round Rock Express 6-2 in Thursday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (66-47) snapped a four-game home winning streak, while the Bees (52-61) have won five of their last six overall.
Palmer (7-9) scattered seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts, and Barrett Browning allowed one hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief. Round Rock did not scratch the scoreboard until the ninth inning on Matt Kata's RBI single and a run-scoring Salt Lake error.
The Express tallied 11 hits on the night but all were singles. Round Rock was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position - the lone hit being Kata's ninth-inning RBI single.
Salt Lake took control of the game early with two runs in the second inning. Freddy Sandoval had a two-out RBI single, and a second run scored on a wild pitch. The Bees pushed their lead to 5-0 in the third on Jeff Baisley's two-run single and Efren Navarro's RBI fielder's choice. Salt Lake added another run in the sixth on Sandoval's sacrifice fly.
Express starter Ryan Tucker (2-4) took the loss; he allowed six runs - five earned - on seven hits and three walks over 6.0 innings with two strikeouts. Beau Jones worked two scoreless innings, and Derek Hankins toiled a scoreless ninth.
Jeremy Moore (2-for-4, two runs scored) and Paul McAnulty (2-for-3, walk) had the only multiple-hit games for the Bees, who collected only seven hits on the night.
Kata was 3-for-4, while Esteban German and Val Majewski each had two hits.
Round Rock and Salt Lake continue their four-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Martin Perez (2-2, 7.36 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Eric Junge (6-8, 4.98 ERA) is listed as the Bees' starter.
