Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
TRENTON, N.J. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders split a doubleheader with the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. The RailRiders won the first game 3-2, and fell 10-0 in the night cap.
The opener of the doubleheader was a terrific pitcher's duel between Brian Keller of the RailRiders and Jacob Waguespack of the Bisons. The contest was scoreless until the top of the fifth when Andrew Velazquez doubled to score Derek Dietrich with the first run of the game.
Keller turned in his best start of the season, tossing 4.0 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four. He lowered his season ERA to 2.57, the lowest on the staff among starting pitchers.
The RailRiders added additional runs in the sixth and seventh innings to open a 3-0 lead, and Luis Garcia nailed down his league-leading 10th save of the season despite allowing a two-run home run to Cullen Large in the bottom of the seventh.
In game two, the Bisons took the lead in the bottom of the second when Dilson Herrera hit a solo home run against Deivi Garcia (1-2) to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead. They added four runs in the bottom of the third and five more in the fourth to take a commanding 10-0 advantage that would hold for the remainder of the game.
Trey Amburgey went 1-for-3 with an infield single in game two to extend his season-long hitting streak to 15 games, and 17 dating back to the end of the 2019 season. He is also working on a 23-game on-base streak to the end of 2019.
The 10-0 loss in game two was the first time that Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has been shut out in a game this season.
The RailRiders continue their series with the Bisons on Friday at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with coverage on the RailRiders Baseball Network beginning at 6:45. RHP Brody Koerner (1-2, 4.78) gets the start for SWB, while RHP Thomas Hatch (MLB Rehab) toes the rubber for Buffalo.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns home on June 15 to host the Syracuse Mets. For tickets and more information, call (570) 969-BALL or slide to www.swbrailriders.com/tickets.
