Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds struggled on Thursday night, allowing 11 runs while recording just two hits themselves in an 11-0 loss to the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate, Atlanta Braves) on a warm night in the Bluff City.
Gwinnett (18-15) raced out to an early lead in the first, plating three runs on four hits, all with two outs. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Johan Camargo. The Stripers tacked on another run in the third on a solo home run from Cristian Pache, his first in five Triple-A games this season.
From there, the Gwinnett pitching staff took over. The Stripers used six pitchers, who combined to allow two hits and five base runners in the entire game. They also recorded seven strikeouts.
On the other side, Tommy Parsons battled his way through five innings in his start, surrendering four runs (all earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and zero walks. The right hander has gone at least five innings in each of his last five starts
Gwinnett put the game away with five runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Jonathan Lucroy hit a three-run home run in the seventh, while Pache smacked a two-run shot in the eighth. The top prospect in Atlanta's system finished the game 3-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and four runs driven in.
The Memphis Redbirds are the proud Triple-A Affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Memphis has claimed four League Championships and one Triple-A National Championship since their affiliation with St. Louis began in 1998.
