Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders dropped the doubleheader to the Syracuse Mets on Saturday. Syracuse railed late in both contests for a 4-2 and a 9-5 win.
Game 1: SYR 4, SWB 2
A come from behind win gave Syracuse a lead in the seventh inning that was ultimately too much. SWB got an early lead in the first inning. A bases loaded walk for Luis Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly from Kevin Smith gave them a 2-0 advantage.
The Mets got one back in the second and tied it in the fifth inning on a wild pitch. Then, Mark Vientos rocketed a two-run home run in the seventh for a 4-2 win.
Will Warren pitched four innings allowing two runs, just one earned. He struck out five. Tanner Tully (L, 0-1) made his first appearance of the season working two and two thirds.
Game 2: SYR 9, SWB 5 (8)
Again Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took an early advantage. Brandon Lockridge led off with a walk and Jose Rojas smashed his third homer of the season.
Syracuse was held quiet until the seventh inning when they batted through the order. A double from Trayce Thompson brought in two to tie the game. Ji-Man Choi's notched a sacrifice fly to give the Mets the lead. Vack-to-back RBI singles put the visitors up 5-2.
The RailRiders went full force in the bottom half. The first three batters of the frame walked to load the bases. Another walk brought in one, but it was Caleb Durbin who tied it up at five with his two-run double.
The contest went into extra innings, but again the Mets made quick work. They scored four runs on three hits, a pair of errors, and a sacrifice fly for a 9-4 advantage.
SWB got one back in the home half, but it wasn't enough. A sac fly from Jeter Downs scored Luis Torrens for a 9-5 final score.
Clayton Beeter tossed 3.1 frames clean with five walks and five strikeouts. Josh VanMeter (L, 0-1), a position player, pitched the eighth taking the loss.
The RailRiders continue wrap up their home series at PNC Field on Sunday, April 7 against the Syracuse Mets. First pitch is set for 1:05 P.M. Tickets and more information are available online at www.swbrailriders.com.
