Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders had a hit in almost every inning as they beat the Buffalo Bisons, 6-4, Wednesday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.

The Riders began their attack on just the fourth pitch of the game as Aaron Judge launched a solo shot to deep center.

The Yankees' farmhands then added single runs in five different frames.

New York's No. 2 prospect, Gary Sanchez, led the offense for the second straight game, going 3-for-5.

Right fielder, Rob Refsnyder, also had three hits and cashed in a pair. His 2 RBI were matched by leadoff man, Ben Gamel, who plated one with a sac fly in the fourth and brought home the game-winning run with a single to right in the eighth.

The Bisons' offense may have ultimately come up short, but performed well on the day.

Andy Burns launched a two-run shot well above the left field wall to tie the game at three in the bottom of the fifth.

That blast was out-done an inning later when Jon Berti crushed a ball two-thirds of the way up the protective screen in front of the I-190 ramp. Berti's first of the year put the Herd ahead 4-3, before the RailRiders scored in each of the following three frames.

Buffalo brought the winning run to the plate with two out in the ninth but Burns' fly out to Refsnyder ended the game.

In his first start of the season, Arnold Leon gave up seven hits over three innings, leading to two earned runs. The native of Culiacan Sinaola, Mexico did not issue a walk and struck out a trio, all in consecutive order following a leadoff triple in the second inning.

Chris Leroux worked the bulk of the game from the Bisons' bump. The 6-foot-6 righty knew ahead of time that he would piggy-back on Leon's start and fired five innings, limiting the Riders to four hits and three runs, two of which were earned in the loss.

"He did a pretty good job. Any time a reliever goes five innings it keeps you in the game," noted Gary Allenson, who then brought up the events leading to Leroux's unearned run.

"He had Diaz picked off there and it went from the third out of the inning...to the guy's on third and the run scores."

With the game tied 4-4, Leroux caught Jonathan Diaz out in no-man's land between first and second but bounced his pickoff throw past Casey Kotchman and into the Bisons' bullpen, allowing Diaz to reach third before coming home to score the go-ahead run.

"I had a change-up grip, and I threw it anyways," an agitated Leroux said afterwards.

"I'd, honestly, rather have them hit three homeruns off of me than give up runs the way I did."

Ben Rowen pitched the ninth and also fell victim to the Riders' bats, tagged with a run on three hits.

Kyle Haynes threw five frames for the RailRiders and was charged with three runs while allowing six hits. He was followed up by an inning from Mark Montgomery, who was recalled from Double-A earlier in the day.

Phil Coke ended up with the win, retiring all six batters he faced, before Conor Mullee picked up his third save.
