Rochester Red Wings News Release

Brandon Kintzler struck out three straight batters with the bases loaded in the 7th inning.

The Rochester Red Wings pounded out 12 hits, and Brandon Kintzler struck out three batters in a key bases loaded moment in a 8-2 win over the Chiefs Wednesday in Syracuse.

The Red Wings scored a pair of runs off Syracuse starter Taylor Hill in the first inning, with a run-scoring hit from James Beresford and Kennys Vargas' double play grounder.

Adam Brett Walker hit his fourth home run of the season in the third inning off Hill, pushing the Wings' lead to 3-0.

Wings left-hander Pat Dean set down the first six batters he faced, then allowed three straight singles in the bottom of the third inning. Dean got top shortstop prospect Trea Turner, to pop out, then struck out Scott Sizemore and Jason Martinson to leave the bases loaded.

The Chiefs closed the gap with one out in the fourth inning, combining three hits and a groundout to score a pair of runs for a 3-2 Wings lead. Beresford made an excellent play at third base to throw out Jose Lozada and avoid any further damage.

Byron Buxton, who led off the game with a double, added another two-base hit in the seventh to score Walker. The hit made the score 4-2 Red Wings, and prompted a pitching change with Abel De Los Santos relieving Hill. Beresford followed Buxton with a double, boosting the lead to 5-2.

Hill (0-2) worked 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Hill threw 100 pitches, 65 for strikes.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Chiefs made a comeback bid. A single and walk put two on with one out, and Kintzler took over for Dean. Sizemore singled to load the bases with the heart of the order due up. Kintzler caught Martinson looking at a called third strike for the first out and fanned Matt Skole swinging for the second out. Kevin Keyes struck out on a caught foul tip, as Kintzler struck out the side to preserve the lead.

Dean (1-3) allowed nine hits, two earned runs and two walks over 6+ innings pitched; he struck out three and threw 93 pitches, 63 for strikes. He came into the game having allowed 9.00 baserunners per nine innings, tied for fourth fewest in the International League.

The Wings loaded the bases against De Los Santos in the eighth inning, and Carlos Paulino hit a clutch two-RBI double for a 7-2 Red Wings lead.

Kintzler set down the side in the eighth inning, and in the top of the ninth Max Kepler's RBI triple brought home Polanco to make the score 8-2.

Marcus Walden pitched the ninth inning, retiring the side.

The Wings win ended the Chiefs' six game win streak, and nine game home winning streak.
