Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Rochester Red Wings, 8-2, Wednesday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. The loss snapped the Chiefs' six-game win streak, though the Chiefs still sported a 6-1 record on the homestand.

Rochester (12-15) opened the scoring with three consecutive hits in the top of the first inning against starter Taylor Hill. Byron Buxton led off the frame with a double to right field. A batter later, James Beresford drove in Buxton with a single into left field. Jorge Polanco then doubled into right field, advancing Beresford to third. With runners on second and third, Max Kepler walked, setting up Kennys Vargas with the bases loaded and no outs. Vargas proceeded to ground into a double play, though Beresford crossed for the second run.

The Red Wings scored again in the top of the second inning on an Adam Brett Walker leadoff home run over the left-center field wall. Hill would rebound from the long ball well, retiring the next 11 hitters he faced.

Syracuse (15-10) got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the fourth against southpaw starter Pat Dean. Following a Matt Skole fly out to open the inning, Kevin Keyes doubled into the left-field corner. Brian Goodwin then hit a line-drive single to center field, with Keyes advancing to second on the hit. Catcher Jhonatan Solano doubled home Keyes in the next at bat, narrowing the score to 3-1. Caleb Ramsey followed with a run-scoring groundout to second base, slicing the lead to 3-2.

The score remained at 3-2 until the top of the seventh. Walker hit a single to right field to open the inning. He then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Solano with one out. Heiker Meneses followed with a strikeout, bringing up Buxton with two outs. The 22-year-old top prospect doubled down the left-field line, plating Walker and knocking Hill out of the game. After right-hander Abel De Los Santos took the mound, Beresford followed with a double of his own, bringing home Buxton and giving Rochester a 5-2 lead.

The Chiefs rallied in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases on two singles from Jose Lozada and Scott Sizemore, along with a Trea Turner walk. Syracuse, however, could not plate a run. Jason Martinson, Skole, and Keyes followed with three consecutive strikeouts against right-handed reliever Brandon Kintzler to end the inning.

Rochester tacked on three more runs in the final two innings. With the bases loaded and one out, catcher Carlos Paulino drilled a two-run double into the left-center field gap. In the top of the ninth, Max Kepler's two-out triple plated Polanco for the game's final tally.

The Chiefs next play on Thursday at 6:05 in Buffalo for the first of a four-game series against the Bisons. Right-hander Austin Voth is scheduled to start for Syracuse against right-hander Drew Hutchison for Buffalo.
