RailRiders Join Neal in Support of Oklahoma Relief Efforts

Moosic, Pa. - On May 21st, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) outfielder Thomas Neal announced he would donate $20 for every hit he records until the Triple-A All-Star break to relief efforts in Oklahoma following the devastating tornadoes. In support of their hot-hitting outfielder, the RailRiders organization will match Neal's donation with every hit.

"The devastation felt by everyone in Oklahoma resonates throughout the country," said RailRiders president and general manager Rob Crain. "We knew we wanted to do something as an organization for the relief efforts, and when Thomas asked us to join him, it made perfect sense."

"God gave me a gift which was the ability to play baseball. His blessings have allowed me to do it for a living," said Neal. "I'd like to use the ability I've been given to help others as much as I can, and Oklahoma needs a little hand. So hopefully when this operation is finished I'll have to write a nice big fat check."

Neal's charitable exploits off the field matchup well with is performance on it. Through Sunday, Neal was hitting .345 (38-110). That mark leads Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and he's also first in on-base percentage (.443), tied for second in doubles (9), and ranks third in RBIs (18). Those numbers are quite impressive considering Neal missed 15 games because of injury.

The RailRiders encourage businesses and individuals to partner with Neal and SWB in support of Oklahoma as the recovery and reconstruction efforts begin. Since his declaration of support, Neal has recorded eight hits, including at least one hit in each game. Neal and the RailRiders will have plenty of opportunity to add to that donation total as SWB has 50 games left on the schedule until the Triple-A All-Star game on July 17.
