May 27, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Gwinnett Braves' right-hander Tim Corcoran has been named the International League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 26, announced by the league office today. Corcoran, the first G-Braves' player to win an IL weekly award this season, went 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA (1 ER in 11.1 IP) in two starts during the week.
Corcoran's first win of the week came in game two of a doubleheader against Louisville on May 20. He limited the Bats to a run on eight hits over 5.1 innings, walked three and struck out a season-high seven. Gwinnett's 5-2 win in that contest snapped a 10-game home losing streak. The right-hander sealed the award thanks to 6.0 scoreless, four-hit innings in Sunday's 9-0 win over Toledo.
The 35-year-old Corcoran is 3-3 with a 3.19 ERA (17 ER in 48.0 IP) in nine starts with Gwinnett this season. The 16-year veteran has also pitched in the IL with the Durham Bulls (2004-07) and was briefly a Major Leaguer with the Tampa Bay Rays (2005-07). He is the first G-Braves' pitcher to win the IL's Pitcher of the Week award since right-hander Todd Redmond won on May 20, 2012.
The Gwinnett Braves open a four-game road series against the Syracuse Chiefs on Monday night. First pitch from NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY is set for 6:30 PM. Right-hander Omar Poveda (3-3, 2.52) will start for the G-Braves, while the Chiefs will counter with right-hander Ryan Tatusko (0-1, 2.97). Listen to the game on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play.
The next G-Braves' home game is Tuesday, June 4 against the Rochester Red Wings, first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM. Tickets are on sale now by calling the Coolray Field Box Office at (678) 277-0340 or by visiting gwinnettbraves.com.
