Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Indians first baseman Matt Hague has been named the International League's Batter of the Week for the period of May 20-26. Over the six-game stretch, Hague produced three multi-hit efforts as part of his .360 batting average (9-for-25), while leading all IL batters with three home runs, eight extra-base hits and a .920 slugging percentage.

The hot hitting first baseman entered the week with just one home run over his first 45 games, but lifted a solo shot on Thursday before connecting on two-run homers on both Friday and Sunday. Along with his three blasts, Hague reached base safely in all six contests, scored at least one run in five of six games and collected at least one RBI in four of six matchups to finish the week tied for second in the IL in runs scored (7) and RBI (8).

Among his many offensive highlights from May 20-26, Hague's torrid stretch included a 3-for-5 effort on May 21 at Pawtucket in which he knocked a double in each of his first three at-bats, the first time a Tribe batter had accomplished the feat since outfielder Alex Presley on August 19, 2011. Hague finished the six-game stretch with five total doubles, and the first baseman is now tied for second in the International league with 17 two-baggers on the season.

Hague is the second Indians batter and third Tribe player to win an IL weekly award following outfielder Brett Carroll (April 8-14) and left-handed pitcher Andy Oliver (May 6-12).
