Buffalo Bisons News Release
Heading into Thursday's game at PNC Field, the RailRiders knew all they need was one more victory to clinch an IL North division title. They left nothing to chance.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre unleashed an impressive offensive assault, amassing 19 hits in a 12-2 win over the Bisons. A fifth straight defeat for Buffalo ensures that the Herd will end the 2015 with a losing record.
The Bisons are now 67-73 with just four games left in their campaign. The team has lost 14 of their last 17 games.
The RailRiders put 10 off their runs up on the scoreboard in the first five innings in their division-clinching win. After a solo run in the second, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre notched three runs in three straight innings from the third to the fifth to put Thursday's contest well out of reach.
First baseman Rob Segedin doubled in a pair in the third inning and centerfielder Slade Heathcott launched a three-run home run in the fourth made it 7-1 RailRiders, breaking the game open.
Gregorio Petit's two-run home run in the fifth sealed the win.
The Bisons got their hits as well, notching 11 in the hit column, but just couldn't get a big rally started. Ty Kelly went 5-for-5 at the plate while IL MVP Matt Hague added two more hits in his attempt to reach Jhonny Peralta's Bisons modern era record. Hague now has 175 hits on the season, six shy of Peralta's 2004 record.
Buffalo plated a run in the fourth inning when Jon Berti followed Andy Burns' double with an infield single. The Bisons added a run in the fifth when Kelly and Hague hit back-to-back singles to allow Alex Hassan to line a sacrifice fly to left field.
Andrew Albers took the loss for the Bisons go to fall to 2-11 on the season. The southpaw allowed seven runs in four innings of work. John Anderson made his Triple-A debut for the Herd, but was hit for three runs in an inning of relief.
BISONS NOTES
Hague's 2-5 night at the plate raised his season average to .344...Just prior to the game, Colt Hynes was outrighted to the Bisons after clearing waivers...Andy Burns finished the game 2-4 with his 25th double of the season.
