Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - Four answered runs, 2.1 scoreless innings from the Gary bullpen and 6.2 innings of two-run ball from Lars Liguori led the RailCats to a 4-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Clunker Car Night at U.S. Steel Yard with 4,989 in attendance. Saturday's win reduces Gary's magic number to four games for a postseason berth and increases the RailCats lead to 4.5 games over Fargo for the second and final playoff spot in the North Division.

Fargo-Moorhead (48-43) struck first for the second straight game with their only two runs in the fourth. Brennan Metzger led off the inning with a solo home run to left for his eighth home run of the year. Chris Jacobs then reached on a fielding error by Will Savage at third base before Leobaldo Pina doubled into the left field corner, giving the RedHawks a pair of runners in scoring position. Two batters later, Devan Ahart scored Jacobs from third with a sacrifice fly to right.

Gary (53-39) tied the game with their first two runs in the sixth. Tillman Pugh led off the inning with an infield single before stealing second. Colin Willis then drew a walk before D.J. Brown threw his second of four wild pitches, allowing both runners to move up 90-feet. The second wild pitch of the inning allowed Pugh to score the RailCats first run before Andy Paz brought home Willis from third with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The RailCats took the lead for good with the final two runs of the game in the seventh. Savage reached on a one-out single before advancing to second on the final wild pitch from Brown. Andy De Jesus then grounded out to first, moving Savage up to third. After Pugh walked, Willis gave Gary a 3-2 lead with an RBI single to right before a fielding error by RedHawks second baseman Maikol Gonzalez allowed Pugh to score the final run of the night.

Jorge De Leon (2-0) recorded the victory with two scoreless innings of relief while Adam Quintana (10) secured the win with the one-out save after getting Ahart to groundout to second with runners on first and second to end the game. Geoff Broussard (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in one inning of relief.

Gary is idle on Sunday before beginning a five-game road trip on Monday against the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m. Neither team has announced their starters for the series opener at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
