Rafters Plate Three Runs in Ninth to Defeat Woodchucks 4-1

WAUSAU - The Wisconsin Woodchucks were defeated by the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 4-1, as the Rafters used a three-run ninth inning to catapult them to victory.

The Rafters struck early in the top of the first inning as Robbie Coman hit a fly ball deep enough to score Michael Jurgella to give the Rafters an early 1-0 lead.

The Woodchucks tied the game up at one in the bottom of the fourth inning as Josh Goossen-Brown hit an single into right field that brought home Tyler Stieb on the play.

The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning when Derek Peake beat out a bang-bang play at first allowing Charlie Curl to score on the play. The very next at-bat when Jackson Slaid hit a double down the left field line allowing two Rafters' runners to score gave the Rafters a 4-1 lead.

UW-Stevens Point pitch J.P. Feyereisen came into the ninth inning for the Rafters and shut down the Woodchucks. Feyerreisen is now tied for the Northwoods League lead with his 11th save of the season.

The Woodchucks will begin a two-game series against the Madison Mallards on Saturday evening. Come out and celebrate Go Pink Night at Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 with gates opening at 5:35.
