Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

Battle Creek, Mich - The Battle Creek Bombers (5-11) needed extra innings to decide their game against the Lakeshore Chinooks (12-4). Lakeshore would prevail though, 10-7 in twelve innings.

The Chinooks got three early runs off Battle Creek starter Caleb Vincent. They plated two more in the sixth and one in the seventh off Bombers reliever Kellen Urbon. The only highlight to this point for Battle Creek was Cam Gibson extending his hitting streak to 26 games in the third. That base hit eclipsed the previous Bombers record held by Jordan Dean. Gibson now needs six more games in a row with a hit to tie the Northwoods League record of 34 held by Luis Rivera. It is a record that has stood since 1994. Vincent lasted five innings, giving up three runs and striking out four. Donnie Hissa started for Lakeshore and quieted the Bombers bats through five solid innings.

The seventh inning woke up the Bombers offense and it started with a lead off solo homer from Greg Velazuez, his third of the year. That was followed by consecutive singles from Drew Carlile, Joe Serrano and Tommy Mirabelli. All three scored on a Gibson RBI triple. Kade Scivicque kept things going with a single and he scored on a Gabe Acevedo single to tie the game at six.

The game would stay tied into extra innings where the two teams exchanged runs in the tenth. Rouric Bridgewater delivered the tying run with a two outs; a RBI single to plate Gibson in the Bombers half of the tenth. With the two teams tied at seven entering the twelfth, Lakeshore jumped back on top thanks to a three-run homer by Chris Manning off Gabe Berman (L 0-2). Mitchell Sewald (W 3-1) pitched four innings of relief for Lakeshore to finish the game. Tensions where high in the twelfth as both benches cleared, but that was as far as things got.
