Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release

The Border Cats fell to 0-5 on their season long eight-game road trip after a 9-6 loss to the Alexandria Blue Anchors Thursday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park. The Cats built an early 3-1 lead, but the Blue Anchors scored three runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to go up 4-3 and never trailed the remainder of the night. Alexandria centre fielder George Salem connected for two of the four home runs hit by the Blue Anchors as the Cats second half record fall to 3-12.

Chris Kerwood (Arkansas State University) started for Thunder Bay and took the loss to slip to 3-4. The righthander pitched five innings and gave up eight hits and six runs. Kerwood walked two and struck out three.

Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) drove in his 34th run of the season in a losing cause as he went 2-5 with a double, one RBI, and a run scored. Cory Kay (Missouri State University) had a 2-3 night at the plate with a run batted in and a run scored and Alex Bautista (Clarendon College) belted a two-run home run, his fourth of the season.

The Cats now head to Duluth to open a three-game weekend series against the Huskies at Wade Stadium. Clint Knoblauch (Florida Gulf Coast University) will take his 3-4 record to the mound in the opener for Thunder Bay. Friday's start time in Duluth has been changed to 8:05pm ET as the Huskies have re-scheduled a fireworks show that was postponed earlier in the season. Thunder Bay holds a 3-1 lead in the 10-game season series for the Superior Cup.
