LA CROSSE, WI -- The La Crosse Loggers (8-8) fell to Eau Claire (8-9) for just the second time this summer on Friday evening.

Through the first two innings Josh Frye (Long Beach State) and Taylor Lehnert (Central Michigan) combined to retire the first 12 batters of the game. Of the twelve outs, seven were by way of a strike out.

Things changed quickly in the top of the third.

After hitting Jose Vizcaino, Frye surrendered a walk and three well-place singles. Despite getting the next three batters out consecutively, the Express still managed to score four runs over the course of the half-inning.

It was the same story in the top of the fourth for Frye. The junior gave up back-to-back hits by Mike Porcaro and Vizcaino to begin the frame. Following an error, catcher Austin Rei made a nice catch behind the plate for the first out of the inning.

Express lead-off hitter Charlie White drove in Porcaro on a bloop single to left field. Left fielder Troy Traxler (Minnesota) made a beautiful throw to get Vizcaino out at home for the second out of the inning. Another error and a single by second baseman Sam Haggerty pushed across two more runs for Eau Claire.

La Crosse finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Connor Teykl (Rice) knocked in center fielder Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) on a single.

Eau Claire score two more in the top of the sixth, but La Crosse answered quickly in the bottom of the inning. Clean-up hitter Michael Katz (William & Mary) got things going with a solo home run to left field. Bekakis drew yet another walk before Traxler and Teykl collected back-to-back singles to cut the lead to 9-4.

UW-La Crosse product Ben Cejka came on in relief of Josh Frye and pitched quite well. The sophomore did not allow a hit in two innings of work.

Cale Henke (Kirkwood CC) pitched a one-two-three top of the ninth for La Crosse.

Both Traxler and Teykl collected multiple hits in the contest. Teykl also drove in two of the Loggers four runs.

La Crosse will be back in action on Saturday in Green Bay. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and the Kwik Trip Pregame Show with Micah Schroeder and Nick Rytilahti will begin at 6:30.
