TONIGHT'S GAME: Is the fourth of a four-game series (the Braves have won two of three) and the 12th of 12 meetings; the sixth of six at The Diamond. Richmond is 7-4 vs. the Clippers, 3-2 at The Diamond. The Braves are 347-395 all-time against Columbus. The 46th of 48 games vs. West Division clubs; the 22nd of 24 at home. Richmond is 24-21 vs. the West, 13-8 at home. It is the fourth of a seven game homestand (Richmond is 2-1). The Braves lead the South Division by two and a half games over second-place Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Braves beat the Clippers 6-1 at the Diamond Monday. Jose Reyes tossed seven innings without allowing an earned run and Gregor Blanco had three hits to lead the Braves to their eighth win in their last 10 games. The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on RBI singles by Blanco and Brayan Pena. Abraham Nunez singled a run home in the fourth to put the Clippers on the board. Blanco knocked in another run in the home half to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. The Braves blew the game open with three runs in the eighth inning. Mike Rozema doubled a run home and Iker Franco chased two home with a single. Reyes earned the win. He also had a hit and sacrifice bunt. Zach Schreiber worked two scoreless innings to notch a save. Jason Bergmann took the loss.
REACHING THE PEAK: The Braves are a season-high 17 games over .500 for the second time in 2007. The last time the Braves were 18 or more games over was the end of the 1994 season when they finished with four straight wins and a record of 80-61. That club won the Governors Cup championship. The Braves club record for wins in a season is 83. The Braves would need to win 14 of their last 21 games (.667) to equal that mark.
UN-LUCKY 13: Brandon Jones 13 game hitting streak, equaling a club season high (Martin Prado hit in 13 straight from June 30-July 20), ended last night The last time the Braves had a hitting streak longer than 13 games was in 2004 when Wilson Betemit hit in 15 straight games in June. Jones run of nine straight multiple hit games also ended last night.
CLUBHOUSE TURNSTILE: Mike Rosema made his Triple-A debut last night, becoming the 55th player used by the R-Braves this season. That equals the second most in club history (the 2006 club used 55). The franchise record is 60 in 2005. The Braves have made 113 roster moves. 14 R-Braves have earned promotions to Atlanta this season.
LEADING LIGHTS: The Braves lead the IL in batting average (.273), ERA (3.54), most shutouts (13), and fewest home runs allowed (77). They are second in steals (126). Richmond also leads in on-base percentage (.344). Gregor Blanco is tied for fourth in the league in runs scored (67). Martin Prado, now with Atlanta, is third in batting average (.320). The Braves are tied for second in the IL in fielding percentage (.982 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre). Their 80 errors is tied for the second fewest in the IL. Richmond leads the league in percentage of opponents caught stealing (67-156 .429).
OF STREAKS AND MEN: Pete Orr has hits in five straight games (8-20 .400). Wes Timmons has hits in three straight games (5-10 .500). Barbaro Canzares is hitting .500 in 12 games for the month of August (23-46).
CRUNCHY NUMBERS: The Braves have committed errors in seven straight games. The Braves have scored a total of 62 runs in their last eight wins and a total of one run in their last two losses. The Braves are 31-13 in games in which Iker Franco starts at catcher. Richmond has led the South Division every day since April 11. Richmond has set a club record for batters hit by pitched balls (64). Wes Timmons is one short of the club record for getting hit by pitches (17 by Ed Miller 1979).
SENIOR CIRCIUT FAIRWELL: The Braves play their final regular season game against a National League affiliate tonight. Richmond closes the season with 20 straight games vs. American league clubs. The Braves are 28-15 (.651) vs. NL clubs.
