Norfolk Tides News Release
August 14, 2007 - Toledo's Dane Sardinha lined a go-ahead single in the top of the 9th inning, lifting the Mud Hens to a 4-3 win over the Tides in front of 8,840 fans at Harbor Park Tuesday afternoon.
With the score tied 3-3, Mud Hens' shorstop Erick Almonte led off the 9th inning with an infield single off of Francis Beltran (2-8). David Espinosa followed by dropping down a sacrifice bunt to Beltran, but Beltran's throw ricocheted off the glove of second baseman Eider Torres, allowing Espinosa to reach safely on the error. Sardinha then lined a single into left field , plating Almonte and giving the Mud Hens the lead.
Jose Capellan then came on to work a scoreless ninth for Toledo to pick up his second save of the season.
Macay McBride (2-2) earned the win for the Mud Hens, allowing one hit and three walks in three scoreless innings of relief.
Norfolk trailed 3-0 entering the 5th inning, but rallied against Toledo starter Virgil Vasquez. Val Majewski and Alberto Castillo collected one-out singles in the frame, and Travis Brown drew a walk to load the bases. Adam Stern then lofted a high fly ball that short-hopped the left field wall, clearing the bases and knotting the score at 3-3.
The Tides continue their homestand on Wednesday, as they welcome in the Columbus Clippers for a two-game set. First pitch from Harbor Park is set for 7:15.
