Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Richmond, VA - FasMart Stores, the Richmond Braves, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan are pleased to announce that we have selected Ms. Taylor Nelson as our July "FasMart GrandSlam Kid". She will be presented her award on the 15th of August prior to the start of the Richmond Braves game versus Toledo at 7 PM. Representatives from the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan and FasMart will be on hand to make the presentation.
Taylor will be a Junior at Lancaster High School and has maintained a 4.2143 Grand Point Average while taking honors classes and participating in varsity sports and swimming for the South Eastern Virginia Aquatics. Her swimming has earned her a AAA rating placing her in the top 2% nationwide. She also participates in track, soccer and basketball.
Taylor started volunteering at five years of age when she helped set up a play area for children at the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic, even donating her own toys. As her involvement grew at the clinic she now coordinates children activities at the annual picnic and works in the pharmacy. Taylor has also helped at the Senior Olympics, collected bicycles with the Knights of Columbus, and donated 12 inches of hair to Locks for Love.
She sings in the community chorus and has acted in plays and served as a Virginia Senate Page in 2006. This summer she attended the National Student Leadership Conference at the University of Virginia and attended the Junior Statesmen Summer School at Princeton.
Taylor hopes to someday become a Pediatrician and will receive the $500 scholarship from FasMart to aid that cause. As one of the five monthly winners selected in this program, she will be eligible for the $2500 scholarship to be awarded in September as the FasMart Grand Slam Kid of the Year.
