Quakes earn first road shutout since August 2017

FRISCO, Texas - Three days after earning a difficult road point on Wednesday night in Seattle, the San Jose Earthquakes replicated the feat with a scoreless draw against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Quakes have now earned at least one point in four of the last five matches (2-1-2), including each of the last three (1-0-2).

San Jose's three-match unbeaten run is currently tied for the third longest active streak in Major League Soccer (LA - 6; NYC - 5; FCD - 3).

FC Dallas has been one of the toughest teams to earn points against on the road, dropping just two of their previous 27 matches at Toyota Stadium since August of 2017 (15-2-10). The Texas side entered Saturday's match with a 3-0-1 record at home thus far in 2019 and hadn't dropped points since opening day.

MATCH NOTES:

The Earthquakes are just the second road team this season to earn a point against FC Dallas, who held a 3-0-1 home record heading into Saturday.

San Jose is currently in the midst of a three-match unbeaten streak (1-0-2). The last time the Quakes earned 5+ points during a three-match unbeaten streak was the final three contests of the 2017 regular season (2-0-1).

San Jose is currently tied for the third longest active unbeaten streak in Major League Soccer (LA - 6; NYC - 5; FCD - 3).

With the draw, the Earthquakes have now earned at least one point in four of the last five matches. The last time Quakes accomplished this feat during a single season was from April 29 - May 20, 2017 (3-1-1).

Saturday marked the club's second shutout of the 2019 season and first since April 6 vs. POR (W 3-0).

The Quakes earned their first shutout on the road since they defeated the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center on Aug. 27, 2017 (W 3-0).

The Earthquakes now hold a 28-20-16 all-time record against FC Dallas.

San Jose is now 12-12-8 all-time against FC Dallas on the road.

The Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak against FC Dallas to five matches (3-0-2) and haven't lost to the Texas side since July 2016.

The Quakes have only conceded more than a single goal to FC Dallas once in their last seven meetings (W 4-3 on 8/29/18).

On the match:

"I think we had an excellent game against a great opponent. The players did well to understand what we were looking for. It's an important point for us heading back home."

On hot weather affecting the players:

"I think physically we finished better than our opponent even though they were well-rested heading into this game. Overall, I think the weather affected both teams at the end of the day."

On preparing for the next match:

"We are going to have a day off, and then when the week starts, we will get back to work like we normally do, thinking of our opponent for the next match."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER DANIEL VEGA

On the match:

"I think the team had a good game. It showed in the second half because we were determined to get the three points. We made a great effort as a team and honestly it wasn't an east game, but overall, we are happy because we had a great performance. We'll be leaving here with a bad taste in our mouth because we couldn't get the win."

On the weather being a factor:

"I think the weather affected both teams. It wasn't the most comfortable setting, but we're young teams that like to run and be constantly moving. The game was flowing but it seemed [FC Dallas] were getting worn out by the weather. We physically felt great and for most of the second half of the game. I felt like were dominating in their area."

On building momentum:

"We are going to rest after having two games in a week. We've had two long trips on the road and we still haven't returned home. We are going to head home tonight and rest tomorrow so we can start preparing for what is to come. We are growing as a team. It was a rough start, but I am happy we are starting to improve as one."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER FLORIAN JUNGWIRTH

On the match:

"I think it was another great road performance. We had a few rough minutes at first where Dallas had the chance to score, but after that, we clearly dominated the game. We had a few chances to score and then in the second half, we had times where we were dominating. Overall it was a good point, where maybe we could've gotten three, but we are proud of this performance."

On the team getting two good results on the road:

"This team is growing, and we are starting to have more self-confidence from week to week. We believe in ourselves, we believe in our skills, and we believe in what we can do. In the past three games, we had teams struggling with our philosophy and fighting spirit."

On the upcoming week:

"Rest is needed for sure. We prepare like always do, in a good mood, and we will battle Cincinnati and hopefully get our third home win."
