Quad City Splits Pair in Michigan

Quad City Mallards News Release


Moline, IL-The Mallards went 1-1-0 last weekend in a pair of games in Michigan. On Friday, the team beat Flint 2-1 on goals by Andrei Lupandin and Glenn Detulleo. Saturday night in Fraser, Michigan, the Mallards dropped a 3-2 decision to Motor City. Chad Woollard and Evgeny Lazarev scored in the defeat.

This week, the Mallards return to Michigan to take on the top two teams in the Central Division. The weekend starts on Friday in Kalamazoo vs. the Wings. On Saturday, the Mallards make their first trip of the season to Muskegon.

The Mallards make their second trip to Kalamazoo this year. In their previous visit, the Wings beat Quad City 5-3.

Saturday, December 17th at 6:40 p.m. central time vs. the Muskegon Fury at Walker Arena

The Mallards dropped a 5-1 decision to Muskegon on November 23rd at The MARK. Quad City will be in Muskegon to avenge that loss on Saturday night at 6:40 p.m.

Friday, December 9th -Mallards 2 at Flint 1

The Mallards overcame a 1-0 deficit on Friday night in Flint to come away with their tenth victory of the year by a final of 2-1. Jason Tapp made 31 saves in earning his eighth win of the year. Andrei Lupandin and Glenn Detulleo scored for Quad City in the win. The teams skated scoreless through the first two periods before combining for three goals in the third. Flint's Terry Marchant opened the scoring with his eighth of the year at 9:14 of the final period. The Mallards battled back to tie the game on a goal by defenseman Andrei Lupandin. The back hand goal by Lupandin was his fourth marker of the year. Just 1:49 later, Glenn Detulleo scored on the power-play to give the Mallards the lead for the first time. Detulleo scooped up a rebound off the end wall and deposited the puck past Flint netminder Jason Saal for his fourth goal of the year.

Saturday, December 10th- Mallards 2 at Motor City 3

The Mechanics extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 win over the Mallards on Saturday night in Fraser, Michigan. After falling behind 3-0 through two periods, the Mallards staged a third period comeback that produced two goals. Mallards forward Evgeny Lazarev recorded a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" with a goal, an assist and a fight in the loss. Motor City's Greg Bullock scored the game's first goal just 1:49 into the opening period. Bullock's fifth marker of the year stood up as the only goal of the first. Two minutes into the second, former Mallard Mike Burgoyne scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Mechanics a 2-0 lead. The Mechanics stretched the lead to 3-0 on a shorthanded tally by Scott Dobben at 16:42 of the middle period. The Mallards mounted a third period comeback on goals by Evgeny Lazarev and Chad Woollard, but were unable to net the equalizer. Lazarev's goal, his 11th of the year, cut the Mechanics lead to two with 5:16 gone in the third. Chad Woollard scored his 14th at 12:47 of the period to set the final at 3-2 in favor of the Mechanics.

Player of the Week

Evgeny Lazarev is the Mallards nominee for the UHL Player of the Week. He recorded a point on every Mallards goal this week. On Friday in Flint, he recorded a pair of assists before adding a goal and a helper on Saturday in Motor City.

Goalie of the Week

Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He stopped 40 of 41 shots over two games last weekend. He earned the win on Friday in Flint after stopping 31 Generals shots. On Saturday, he made nine saves on nine shots in a relief appearance.
