Providence Finishes Regular Season Home Schedule with 3-2 Win
April 13, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins won their last home game of the regular season 3-1 against the Springfield Falcons
It was a scary start to the period when the goal light went off for the Springfield Falcons, but the refs called no goal on the ice to keep the game scoreless. The Providence Bruins took the lead midway through the period. Frankie Vatrano passed to Rob O'Gara on the blue line who unloaded a hard slap shot that zipped past Hill's pads. This was O'Gara's first pro goal and point since signing with the P-Bruins at the conclusion of the Yale Bulldog's NCAA season.
The P-Bruins kept things rolling in the 2nd period with Seth Griffith notching his 24th goal of the season. At the expiration of a penalty kill, Providence transitioned down the ice and into the offensive zone. Brian Ferlin dodged his defender and got a shot on net, and Griffith was there to bury the rebound. At the end of the middle frame, Providence was outshooting the Falcons 25-17.
The P-Bruins were forced to kill off two penalties in the third period. The Falcons managed to capitalize during Max Talbot's tripping minor to cut the P-Bruins' lead to 2-1. Frankie Vatrano retaliated with an empty net goal with less than a minute to play in regulation to keep his goal per game average alive (34 goals in 34 games). Brandon Carlo notched the secondary assist for his first pro point.
Jeremy Smith stood big in net, turning away 27 shots and coming up with two huge glove saves on Springfield in the third period.
The Providence Bruins have two more games left in the regular season before coming back to the Dunk to begin the Calder Cup Playoffs.
