Admirals Trap Wolves 3-1
April 13, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Trevor Murphy's power-play goal with just over four minutes to play propelled the Admirals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago Wolves in Amtrak Rivalry Action Tuesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The win extended the Admirals point streak to 13 games, which is a new team AHL record and ties the franchise mark, originally set in 1992-93. It was also the team's seventh win in a row.
Juuse Saros remained the hottest goalie in the league. The reigning AHL Goalie of the Month stopped 28 shots to earn his 14th win in his past 15 decisions and push his overall record this season to 29-7.
After a scoreless first period, Max Reinhart put the Ads up 1-0 with his 22nd goal of the season 4:25 into the second. Reinhart came into the Chicago zone 2-on-2 with Pontus Aberg. He put on a quick burst of speed that got him behind the Wolves defense and tipped a perfect pass from Aberg by goalie Jordan Binnington.
However, the Wolves tied score up with 5:10 to play in the middle frame with a 5-on-3 goal from Danny Kristo.
That set the stage for Murphy's game winner in the third period. With the Wolves Justin Schmaltz in the box for hooking, Kevin Fiala set Murphy up for a one-timer that he blasted over the shoulder of Binnington with 4:13 remaining in the game.
Chicago would pull their netminder in favor of an extra attacker with 1:55 to go, but the Ads defense, anchored by Saros, held them at Bay. Patrick Mullen put the game out of reach with an empty netter with 12 seconds left in the game.
The Admirals will play their final regular season home game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday night when they host the Bakersfield Condors at 7 pm.
