Project Shutout Hunger Announced
November 7, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals are pleased to announce our partnership with Coach 4 Food and Feed the Need in Durham to support Project Shutout Hunger.
Minor hockey teams in the Durham Region are invited to participate in this league-wide initiative to help provide food to people in local communities who are less fortunate.
Feed the Need in Durham is the regional food distribution warehouse serving Durham Region. Each year, Feed the Need in Durham makes a real difference in the lives of over 30,000 low income people who do not have enough to eat. 38% are children. They provide food to emergency food providers such as food banks, soup kitchens, community service centres, shelters, drop-in centres, breakfast feeding programs, etc. They assist 46 agencies from Pickering in the west, to Bowmanville in the east, and as far north as Beaverton. On average we handle between 135,000 - 150,000 pounds of food per month that is distributed to an estimated 50,000+ people in Durham Region. To read more about Feed the Need in Durham, click here.
To be a part of Project Shutout Hunger, here's how you can help:
Choose a representative from your minor league hockey team to keep track of donations Collect as much food and money as possible to contribute to our goal of reaching 15,000 lbs. of food Drop your donations off at Feed the Need in Durham (371 Marwood Dr., Unit A, Oshawa, ON) Join us for our game on Thursday, Jan. 1 when we have our final collection for Project Shutout Hunger
Here's a message on Project Shutout Hunger from Oshawa Generals captain, Josh Brown.
You've already made steps to help our commitment to shutout hunger. At our Thanksgiving game on Monday, Oct. 13, we raised 800 lbs. of food along with $121.25 (equivalent to an additional 182 lbs.) of food for Feed the Need in Durham. We need your continued support on New Year's Day, Thursday, Jan. 1 when we host another food drive in support of Feed the Need in Durham. The three minor league teams that raise the most food/donations throughout the season will be honoured at our game on Jan. 1.
Should you have any questions, please contact Meghan Wright, Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships at 905-433-0900 ext. 2234.
Thank you for helping the Oshawa Generals shutout hunger in the Durham Region!
