Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Saginaw Spirit faced off against the Guelph Storm for their second and last matchup at the Sleeman Centre of the 2014-15 season. The Spirit were looking for a win after they fell to the Storm 5-3 earlier in the season on Guelph's home ice. Saginaw played an impressive third period and took home a victory against Guelph in a 3-1 decision.
The Saginaw Spirit turned in a solid first period, dominating shots on goal 20-9 over the Guelph Storm. Though the first period was scoreless, it's not to say it was uneventful. The Spirit moved to their third power play of the evening at 16:48 after Guelph's Jesse Hilton headed to the box for tripping. Shortly after Jimmy Lodge knocked in a goal that needed reviewing by the officials. The Spirit were denied their 1-0 lead due to a high stick on the play, which sent Saginaw back to goalless. Guelph had multiple scoring opportunities that were stopped by Saginaw's starting goaltender Nikita Serebryakov, defending 9 shots total from the Storm after the first period of play.
The Storm saw the only goal in the first 40 minutes of play when Guelph's Robby Fabbri put the Storm on the board 19 seconds into the second, with assists by Tyler Bertuzzi and Phil Baltisberger. Saginaw put 12 shots on Guelph's starting goaltender Justin Nichols in the second. The Storm finished the period with 8 shots on goal.
Saginaw's Nick Moutrey fired one into the net 22 seconds into the third period on a pass that was set up Dylan Sadowy and Michael Holmes, making it a 1-1 game. Midway through the last period of play Nick Moutrey netted his second of the night, cushioning the Spirit lead 2-1. Assists on the play were credited to Dylan Sadowy and Ryan Orban. The Spirit moved to a power play where Jacob Ringuette scored his first goal of the season at the 15:40 mark, with the help of Jimmy Lodge and Marcus Crawford. The Saginaw Spirit knocked off the Guelph storm by a score of 3-1. Final shots on goal favored Saginaw 44-24.
The Saginaw Spirit will head to the Erie Insurance Centre to take on the Erie Otters at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8th. The boys will be back on home ice Friday, November 14th for Ladies Night at the Dow Event Center. Puck is set to drop at 7:11 p.m.
