Pride Complete Two Deals
November 5, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Florence Pride, proud members of the ECHL, announced today that they have acquired defenseman Ryan Crane from the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for future considerations. In a separate transaction, the Pride traded defenseman Jason Metcalfe to the Texas Wildcatters, also for future considerations.
Crane, 23, is in his second professional season. As a rookie last season, he appeared in 68 games with the Augusta Lynx, posting eight goals and 16 assists, while adding 82 penalty minutes. The Mississauga, ONT native made his professional debut at the end of the 2001-02 season, tallying one assist in four games with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Crane played in six games with the Chiefs this season, with three assists and 16 penalty minutes.
"We needed to add an offensive-defenseman that can move the puck," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "With fast teams like Florida, Columbia and South Carolina in our division, getting the puck out quickly is a high priority. Ryan will also help out our power play and take some of the responsibility off of Ryan Knox and Mark McRae.
This was Metcalfe's second season with the Pride. In seven games, he was scoreless with 23 penalty minutes. Last season, the 25-year-old appeared in 66 games, posting six assists and 126 penalty minutes.
The Pride's six-game home stand continues with a pair of games this weekend. Friday night, the Pride take on the Gwinnett Gladiators for the first-time ever at 7:30. On Saturday, the Greenville Grrrowl skate into town, also at 7:30. It's Guaranteed Win Night at the Lion's Den. If the Pride do not beat the Grrrowl, all fans in attendance will be able to purchase $1.00 tickets for the Pride's home game against Roanoke on November 13. Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, all TicketMaster outlets, by phone at (843) 679-9333 or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
