Power Tops Augusta 4-1

(Augusta, GA) - The West Virginia Power beat the Augusta GreenJackets 4-1 on Thursday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium. JT Brubaker struck out a career-high 11 batters and four different payers drove in run to pace the Power in the series opening win.

The Power plated two runs in the second against GreenJackets starter Mike Connolly. Daniel Arribas and Logan Hill reached on singles to start the inning. Christian Kelley singled in Arribas for a 1-0 lead and Hill scored when Alfredo Reyes reached on a fielder's choice.

Augusta scored once in the bottom of the second against Brubaker. Jean Angomas singled home Kelvin Beltre to cut the Power lead to one.

West Virginia plated one insurance run in the top of the sixth. With two down, Arribas reached on a bloop double, driving in Carlos Munoz from second for a 3-1 edge.

Brubaker (4-5) made that lead stick through six innings. The right-hander limited the GreenJackets to six base runners on four hits and two walks. He also stuck out the side twice en route to his career-best strikeout total.

The Power added a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to close the scoring. Munoz brought home Logan Ratledge with a deep fly out to right for a 4-1 lead.

Tanner Anderson pitched two perfect frames for his fifth hold of the season before Seth Mcgarry work the final inning for his second save. Connolly (2-2) took the loss after allowing all four right over eight innings of work. TMunoz, Arribas and Kelley had two hits apiece while that trio and Reyes each drove in a run.

West Virginia and Augusta play the second game of this series on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
