ABOUT LAST GAME: For a third straight game, the Fireflies erased a deficit and soared past Rome, winning 9-3 on Wednesday. Columbia swept the Braves during the last visit to Rome and is now 6-0 this season at State Mutual Stadium.
SEVEN UP: Fireflies outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski drove in seven runs in the three-game series at Rome. Over his last nine games, the Cary, Illinois, native is mashing. Kaczmarski holds a .344 (11-for-32) batting average with 14 RBI during that stretch.
FORMER GAMECOCK IN TOWN: 2015 University of South Carolina second baseman, Max Schrock, is back in Columbia. This time it's as a pro. He was selected by the Nationals in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. In his final season at USC, Schrock hit .328 with 6 home runs and 34 RBIs, and was named to the All-SEC 2nd team.
ATTENTION CLASS, WE HAVE A NEW VISITOR: Hagerstown traveled 500 miles south (about an eight-hour bus ride) to reach Columbia for the first and only time this season. The Fireflies make their only trip north to Municipal Stadium in the Old Line State from July 20-22.
PARENT TRAP: While Columbia (New York Mets) and Hagerstown (Washington Nationals) are in opposite South Atlantic League divisions, their parent clubs are neck and neck in the National League East standings. The Mets are just three games back of the Nats.
