Power Rebounds with a Sunday Win

(Greensboro, NC- May 3, 2015)- On Sunday, the West Virginia Power beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-2 at NewBridge Bank Park to snap a two game losing streak. The bottom third of the Power lineup paced the offense. Elvis Escobar, Tyler Filliben and Jeff Roy combined to go five for ten with a walk and two runs.

The Grasshopper struck first with a run on a single, a stolen base and an error in the third inning off Power starter Alex McRae. West Virginia answered with a three-run top of the fourth against Tyler Kolek, the Miami Marlins top prospect. Chase Simpson hit a solo home run to lead off the inning; his fourth of the year and the first allowed by Kolek as a professional. Filliben singled and scored on a Cole Tucker sacrifice fly to give the Power a 2-1 lead. Pablo Reyes bunt single plated Roy for a 3-1 advantage.

The Hoppers added a run on two hits in the fifth to narrow the deficit. West Virginia added an insurance run in the ninth inning when Roy walked, stole two bases and scored on an infield single by Jordan Luplow.

Alex McRae (2-2) worked six innings for the first time this season and for the second time in his career. The right-hander allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out three. Jake Burnette pitched two scoreless and Nick Neumann worked a four batter ninth for his fourth save. Kolek (2-1) surrendered all three Power runs on six hit over four innings.

West Virginia and Greensboro close this four game series on Monday evening at 7:00 pm. Dovydas Neverauskas will start for the Power against the Grasshoppers' Scott Squier.
