Greenville Drive News Release

Hagerstown, MD - The Greenville Drive (14-10) offense was too much for the Hagerstown Suns (10-3) pitching staff to handle on Sunday afternoon, smacking 18 hits in a 14-4 victory.

Leading the offensive charge was third baseman Rafael Devers, who went 5-6 with four runs, two doubles and his first two homers of the season, one of which was a grand slam. Ben Moore picked up three hits, all doubles, for the second straight game and drove in a pair, Javier Guerra added three hits of his own, and Mauricio Dubon and Mike Meyers added two hits apiece.

The Drive rebounded after Hagerstown scored twice in the bottom of the first against Jamie Callahan, as Meyers walloped a solo homer to left-center off Austen Williams in the top of the third to cut the lead to 2-1.

Back-to-back fourth inning doubles by Devers and Moore tied the game at two in the fourth inning, but the Suns scored twice more against Callahan in the bottom half to retake the lead after an Osvaldo Abreu RBI double and an RBI groundout by Alec Keller.

Nick Longhi cut the lead to one in the fifth with an RBI single to score Dubon, and the Drive scored twice in the sixth against Andrew Cooper (0-2) to take the lead for good thanks to RBI singles by Joseph Monge and Derek Miller.

The rally made a winner of Chandler Shepherd (3-0), who worked three scoreless relief innings with two strikeouts.

A four-run seventh allowed the Drive to really pull away, as Moore doubled home a run and Hagerstown pitchers issued three walks with the bases loaded.

Devers smacked a solo blast to center in the eighth off David Ramos, and he bashed a grand slam in the ninth to cap his monster afternoon at the plate.

The series wraps up on Monday afternoon in Hagerstown at 1:00 PM. LH Jalen Beeks (1-0, 4.12) starts for the Drive, and the Suns will send LH Connor Bach (0-0, 4.50) to the mound.
