BlueClaws Pound out 11 Hits En Route to 3rd Straight Win

SAVANNAH, GA - Malquin Canelo put the BlueClaws ahead with a 7th inning RBI double and Matt Hockenberry shut the door as the BlueClaws topped Savannah 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.

Carlos Tocci continued his stellar week, going 3-4 and is now 14-25 on the current road trip, while Rhys Hoskins went 2-5 and extended his hitting streak to nine games.

The BlueClaws, 5-1 on their seven-game road trip, have now won three games in a row for the first time since July 24-26, 2014 and they are 13-11, two-games over .500 for the first time since they were 4-2. Savannah falls to 1-5 on their homestand and the Sand Gnats are now 7-16 on the season.

Trailing 2-1, the BlueClaws took the lead in the 6th inning. Carlos Tocci walked to start the inning and was driven in by Rhys Hoskins' RBI triple, which tied the game. After Deivi Grullon grounded out, Jiandido Tromp's SAC fly scored Hoskins to put the BlueClaws ahead 3-2.

After Savannah tied the game, Lakewood re-claimed the lead in the 7th inning. After Derek Campbell was hit by a pitch, Malquin Canelo doubled down the left-field line to score Campbell and put the BlueClaws up 4-3. Cord Sandberg's RBI single scored Canelo to make it 5-3 in the 7th.

Hoskins drove in Carlos Tocci with an RBI double in the 9th inning to complete the BlueClaws scoring. Matt Hockenberry gave up his first run of the season in the bottom of the 9th but got his league-leading sixth save of the year.

BlueClaws starter Elniery Garcia allowed three runs over six innings to earn the win and improve to 2-2. Jason Zgardowski threw two scoreless innings of relief for Lakewood. Savannah starter Martires Arias exited in the 7th, allowing five runs over 6.1 innings of work and fell to 2-1 on the season.

Tocci, Hoskins, Canelo, and Cord Sandberg all had multi-hit games for the BlueClaws. Tocci has 12 in the first 24 games of the season.

The series in Savannah concludes on Monday night. RHP Ricardo Pinto (2-0) starts for the BlueClaws opposite RHP Scarlyn Reyes (0-3).
