Hickory Crawdads News Release

Charleston, SC - The Hickory Crawdads continued their streak of not losing consecutive games this season with a bounce back contest against the Charleston RiverDogs Saturday night, as the 'Dads rode the excellent pitching of starter Brett Martin and the bullpen to a 4-1 win over the 'Dogs at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.

Coming off a series opening 3-2 loss to the RiverDogs, the Crawdads offense proved more opportunistic in game two by scoring four runs on nine hits, with the Hickory pitching staff holding Charleston to one run on five hits. Martin led the way as he faced the minimum number of batters through the first five frames before ending the night with one run allowed on three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts over 5.1 IP. Relievers Chris Dula and John Fasola took it the rest of the way, with the tandem tossing 3.2 combined scoreless innings en route to the win.

The Crawdads offense quickly jumped on RiverDogs starter Justin Kamplain for a pair of runs in the 1st, as Travis Demeritte drew a one out walk and Ronald Guzman followed with a single before both Jose Trevino and Luke Tendler lined RBI base knocks to put the 'Dads ahead 2-0. The score would stay the same until the top of the 6th, when Tripp Martin walked and eventually scored on an infield RBI hit from Jose Cardona to push the Hickory advantage to 3-0.

Charleston was able to break up the shutout with a single tally in the home half of the 6th, but that would be all they could muster as the RiverDogs stranded two runners in the 6th, three in the 7th, and one more at third base in the 8th resulting in the 4-1 final score.

Guzman ended the night 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Trevino went 2-5 with an RBI and Tendler finished 2-4 with one RBI.

Martin (2-0) earned the win for the Crawdads, while Fasola earned his fourth save of the season by recording the final six outs of the game. Kamplain (1-3) took the loss for the 'Dogs after giving up three runs on five hits, three walks, and three strikeouts over 5.1 IP.

The Crawdads (16-6) will look to make it back-to-back wins over the RiverDogs (14-9) in game three of their four-game series Sunday night at 5:05 pm.
